Building a podcast routine that survives a real commute

A quiet system for finding, queueing, and not drowning in unfinished episodes.

Building a podcast routine that survives a real commute

General educational reading. Not professional advice. For hearing symptoms, safety decisions, or medical concerns, talk to a qualified professional.

Subscribe to fewer shows

Most people subscribe to far more podcasts than they will ever listen to. Pick five or six and accept that the rest will go unheard.

Use the playlist queue, not the inbox

Most podcast apps let you add episodes to a play queue. Add episodes manually as you go instead of having every new episode auto-download; you'll listen to more of what's there.

Speed is fine

Playback at 1.2x to 1.5x is normal for spoken podcasts and saves real time. Music podcasts are an exception.

Save the long ones for long trips

Two-hour interview shows fall flat on a short commute. Save them for road trips and chores; pair short commutes with 30-minute news or essay shows.
